Ex-KGB agent Valeri Yernin, known as “the Surgeon” for the accuracy of his hits, is supposed to be dead. He’s not. Military intelligence analyst Bill Lane discovers that Yernin not only has masterminded the theft of a submarine but also captured Lieutenant Commander Frances Shipley of the British Intelligence Service, planning to use her relationship with Lane against him. He may have finally discovered Lane’s Achilles’ heel.
